Why Yoga?
A Deeper Connection
Majority of people first come to yoga for flexibility, stress relief, health and physical fitness. About two-thirds of yoga students and 85 percent of yoga teachers have a change of heart as they further develop into their practice. When I was 20 I joined a yoga class because I assumed it would be like my old dance classes, bringing me flexibility, cardio, and a fun way to move my body. I remember sitting in one of my first classes and thinking it was so boring, a quiet frankly, a waste of time. The teacher spent about 15 minutes focusing on breath work. If the class didn’t count as a college credit, I probably would have walked out. I wasn’t resonating with anything she was saying. At that point in my life, I truly thought breathing was a waste of time. Years later, it’s everything I need. A moment, whether 5 minutes or over an hour, to slow down and breath. To ground into my body, release the stories of my mind and truly feel into ebbs and flow of movement and stillness.
